Designed to recognise one of the most
important things in Northamptonshire life, a friendly face, a cheery smile and words of encouragement.
The Freaks of Nature Motorcycle Club received various nominations for their annual Easter egg run delivering chocolate eggs to children's homes in the county.
Accepting the award for the club, member Gareth Earp said: “We never did it expecting an award. I am over the moon. I am shaking like a leaf.”
Every year since 1999, the leather-clad “Easter bunnies” on bikes have organised the delivery service. In the first run, a convoy of 35 bikes rode from a pub to children’s homes around Northampton. The Easter egg run has now become an important annual event for the club, with each event getting bigger and better each year. This year, the club joined forces with the Mini Owners Club and the Strangetown Scooter Club to deliver the treats.
The clubs also held a fundraising evening
at the Picturedrome pub in Northampton, with performances from live bands. The concert raised money for the children’s ward at Northampton General Hospital. The club, which calls itself “The Coolest Motorcycle And Party Club In the World”, also once held a beach party Northampton, filling a pub with two tons of sand with the landlord decorating the garden with palm trees
